Inland Europe is no more the last of the invasions of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). From recent breakthrough in events, Inner Mongolia Television has just signed a deal huge television airing deal with the UFC. The fabulous news of UFC’s deal with China would mean that 80 million homes would now be entertained by watching mixed martial arts. “China is a huge market, and no one understands martial arts better than anyone else in the world”, declared the UFC president. Dana White, the UFC president also states that it is estimated that UFC will become a big hit in china and for the NMTV network.
Starting from this month, UFC programs including, ‘’The Ultimate Fighter” a reality program, UFC unleashed“- highlight shows and “UFC All Access” fighter profiles, will be aired on NMTV. The potential of UFC reaching over 240 million viewers throughout china is a huge break in the history of UFC. NMTV would be airing the show on weekend time slots. NMTV started in 1969, but it reaches a very small portion of china. However, the deal that UFC has struck with NMTV means that this might mean a big alliance even for NMTV. The starting show timings would be from 1:30 to 5:30 PM on weekends, in various languages. China is the place where the martial arts originated. They are the people who know the most about the art and this can sure boost the viewer ratings of UFC. However, it might take awhile to reach its success, but UFC is in no hurry because now that they have tapped down to the bottom of mixed martial arts, they can sure see big success in awhile once the news travels around. At present, the martial arts program features a number of different kinds of martial arts and combats from all over the world. The featured arts are boxing, judo, karate, taekwondo and wrestling. The first MMA fight that was launched on NMTV’s fight weekend was in April. This happens to be the first television program to exclusively highlight international martial arts competitions in all of China. Ever since the launch in April, the ratings for the shows have increased by 91% and 124%. This is just three months since its launch. When compared with the other programmed that aired at the same time as this program, it was found that the UFC program happened to come up with higher rankings than the other programs during the same time slots. It also happens to be one of the top three weekend programs. There were surveys that were conducted to estimate the audience’s interest. These surveys concluded that the major audiences of the shows were 35 – 65 year olds. 71% of the audiences were also found to be males. Even though the educated population of China is a small number, the survey mentioned that the large portion of the Fight weekend viewers have done higher education. NMTV is a free to air satellite television that reaches about 250 million viewers in 35 major cities all around China. It also happens to be ranked as the 25th in the nation. |
